Since yesterday (July 4th), Paris is living at the pace of its Autumn-Winter 2011-2012 shows, following Christian Dior, Giorgio Armani Privé, Givenchy, Chanel, Valentino, Jean Paul Gaultier down the catwalks… and I’ve picked out a few little black dresses.

Haute couture for the LBD

The couture bal began with Anne Valérie Hash (absent the past two seasons) and will end this Thursday 7th of July with the much awaited tunisian deisgner Azzedine Alaïa, for his grand return after fifteen years of absence. Unsurprised, I noticed that, as always and besides few exceptions, every collection presented its own version or two of the little black dress. Of course, for Armani Privé this appeared as a necessity : a tailleur like structure, strict and echoing the perfectionnism the Japanese are renown for, including their pures lines and kimono inspired dresses, with belt reminicent of the famious obi. Long fluid black dresses, satin and printed silk with revisited japanese motifs.

Alexis Mabille mixes refinement and imagination. Very different black dresses...very long and fkuid black dresses that sweep the floor like a train. Evening dresses bound to stun and impress everyone in the room. Make sure you have a look at our fabulous Mabille dress on our website for a stunning entrance. Long and structured, this dress is synonymous of the talent with which Mabille dresses the woman, subliminating her figure and femininity in a modern and even architectural way.

Very pure and simple lines for Anne Valérie Hash, using and abusing of neutral sahdes and non colours, in drapes and fabric lengths. The black dress in her collection is consequently long, asymmetrical, bi-fabric and does not hug the body. If you like draped models at that, have a glance at our Anne Valérie Hash dresses online, prefect for every day and evening occasions, easy to wear and extremely comfortable.

Christian Dior faithful to itself was an abundance of brightly coloured dresses  that grew in diametre as the show progressed… but no black dress to be seen. Hmm… Forgotten maybe ? Of course not, here she is, a myriad layers of fabric to create the single black ball gown. The same could be said for Bouchra Jarrar, whose collection being essentially blue would automatically indicate eliminating an LBD. But not at all ! And why ? Simply because no matter the collection, the season or the predominant colours, the little black dress will always have its place.
